Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater treatment is one of the hidden necessities of life on the Peninsula. SVCW serves more than 220,000 people and business in our service area. By effectively treating wastewater at an advanced, two-stage biological treatment facility, SVCW helps keep the public and San Francisco Bay environmentally clean and safe. Sewage arrives at the treatment facility through a series of pipelines and pump stations. The sewage then passes through physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes, which results in high quality effluent being discharged to the deep-water channel of the San Francisco Bay. The SVCW facility is designed to remove more than 97% of all solids and organic material, and 100% of pathogens from the wastewater.
